Now this one is just silly. I decided to try creating a guitar shred instrumental on Suno, and things got a little out of hand. I repeatedly prompted Suno to the point of absurdity and wound up with an extended, multi-movement composition that was quite impressive in its own way, but (for some reason) ended too abruptly… as in, the tune simply stopped mid-measure.
I won’t assert that I fractured the AI, but it seems I may have pushed the poor dear a tad past its line of tolerance. I consider that a good thing: If Suno can’t stand the heat, well….
Undaunted, I downloaded the WAV file and opened it up in Logic, inserting a fadeout to fix the ending well enough for my purposes.
Then curiosity got the better of me (it happens), so I decided to run the track through some mastering tools to enhance the sound even more. We’re talking a slathering of massive stereo spread, tight compression and limiting, with a healthy dose of aural exciter tossed in for good measure. Gotta love a little aural excitement, I always say.
The result, to my ears, is so thunderously good it’s almost unlistenable! First, there’s the undeniable fact that an AI music generator platform like Suno can wheeze up utterly perfect shred guitar parts that would be virtually — no, make that utterly — impossible for any living breathing human being to play.
Second, with the exception of a few sections where the arrangement mellows a bit, the tempo and intensity of the tune is too frenetic for my taste. But I suppose if one asks for shred, then shred one shall receive from one’s little AI puppet. I asked for excess, and I got it.
So FWIW, I cautiously present for your musical astonishment my latest AI indulgence, Gnawing On Shreds:
