UPDATE: November 23, 2020 – With my old life as a working musician in a state of hiatus (at best), I feel myself at a crossroads professionally. Oddly disinterested in pursuing music right now, I’m instead compelled to put blogging front and center, along with and sharing info I run across during my daily surf. That’s it — carry on.
Back in the Day (before the ‘Rona)
Deep in the heart of the famous artist colony of Brown County, Indiana, Jeff Foster lives with wife Rhonda on a semi-rustic homestead they continue to create on the peak of a rather precipitous hill overlooking a small, spring-fed lake, located about five minutes outside of the picturesque tourist town of Nashville. From this deeply wooded retreat, Jeff pursues his musical, earthly and spiritual studies, venturing out into the world as needed to do his work.
A lifelong music instructor, Jeff teaches guitar, banjo and bass privately in Nashville, IN, as well as online. A former guitar instructor at two major universities and a prominent community college, Jeff also dabbles in stringed instrument repair when he gets the chance.
Jeff performs as a solo guitarist and as a band member. Since relocating to Brown County in 2012, he was seen performing as a member of several well-known bands, including:
- FOSTER JONES with singer-songwriter Frank Jones
- DRY RED, with the phenomenal vocalist, keyboardist and songwriter Amanda Webb
- CELTICA, a “progressive Celtic” band with Tammera Lane, Time Dooley, Carolyn Dutton and others
- Wine-down Wednesday evenings at Brown County’s Hobnob Corner Restaurant (cancelled by the ‘Rona), playing his eclectic repertoire of solo guitar music.
Having recorded and produced his own recordings for many decades, Jeff is also in the audio production business with his home-based StringDancer Studios, specializing in demo and CD projects for singer-songwriters. Many of his productions are featured over in the Discography section.
Another side business of Jeff’s is stringed instrument repair. He’s been doing repairs since the late 1970s, and enjoys the solitary pleasure of healing ailing guitars, banjos, basses, mandolins and fiddles.
Then there’s Foster’s web design & hosting business, StringDancer.net. After going online in the mid-’90s, Jeff soon began learning the ropes of web design and server administration, and continues to work as a freelance webmaster, designing and/or hosting websites for individuals, organizations and small businesses. Visit StringDancer.net for more info.
Welcome to the hub of Jeff’s professional life,
personal interests and online activities.
